Here is a very rare, Jaguar XK140SE Fixed Head Coupe. This car is one of only five 1957 XK140 fixed head coupes built. (The Iconic Jaguar XK by Phillip Porter).
The car runs and drives well. It has had a recent oil and filter change with Castrol GTX 20w50, and the engine runs smoothly and strong. The clutch is smooth and predictable with no slip or chatter, and the gearbox shifts well through all of the gears. The rack and pinion steering, introduced in 1957, steers well. The body is solid and straight. The frame and undercarriage are clean. The dual stainless steel exhaust is new.
The car comes with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, that shows all of the numbers the car was born with, as well as the owners, operating, maintenance and service handbook. The web site, XK Data, lists car #815902 as a 1956. This car is 815903, with a build date of 11/14/1956 and a dispatch date of 12/11/1956.
The interior, although not original spec, looks pretty good, and I believe it was redone sometime in the 70's, when these were still just neat old cars. The glass is all good and the glass chrome trim is all there. It is missing the chrome strip that runs down the middle of the louvered aluminum bonnet. The boot lid are also aluminum. The car has had a recent respray, and is a 20 footer.
The car starts easily, runs strong, and cool. It can be enjoyed as is, or would be a fine candidate for a show restoration. Recent work includes new front right wheel hub and bearings, two new wheels, two new tires, new speedo and tachometer cables, new tail lights, new fuses, new oil pressure/water temperature combo gauge, and instrument panel light bulbs.
A video clip of me driving the car can be seen here. here

|“Very solid. Nice, clean chassis, new dual exhaust, newer front tires, fresh oil and filter change. The replacement XK 140 3.4 runs very strong with great oil pressure and does not smoke or overheat. Good body with a few minor dings, paint job is a 20 footer. Interior was re-done in the 70's. Good chrome, not pitted but missing the bonnet center chrome strip. Clutch is very good, Gearbox shifts very well, brakes are original drums all around and could be better, but they do stop the car. Rack and pinion steering is nice. Steering wheel horn button surround has a crack. We are currently looking into fiddly fixes, like the speedo, tach, taillights, horn, etc., and they can be addressed as instructed. Comes with Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate. Enjoy as is or a nice candidate for a full blown restoration. Car is being sold as is.” |
