Dennis the Menace is a very special Austin Healey. Maintained and modified to the highest standards by one long term owner. Beginning with a low mileage Healey the Austin driveline was removed and disposed of, the chassis reinforced and a FORD engine was installed with a Tremac 5 speed manual transmission. Recently after 12 years the clutch was replaced. Some of the mods are a fully fused wiring harness encompassing modern lighting and charging circuits. New disc brakes, competition springs, anti traction bars. The 3:9 rear axle ratio is exactly what you need to get off the line fast and cruising at 110 kmh at 2200 rpm. Straight pipe glass packed exhaust that has been carefully routed to the exact place as the original. Caerbont Smiths GPS Speedometer in KMH is always accurate. Caerbont Smiths Tach. Working Halda Speedpilot and Butler Flexi Light. Recent 60 spoke (look way better than stainless 72 spoke) painted Dunlop 5 inch wide wire wheels, a very rare Derrington style wood steering wheel as it should be so you have full vision of the gauges.Leather interior, Lucas driving lights, REAL Aston Martin alloy fuel filler from the fifties, No body modifications and nothing chopped to fit the engine. Ford engines are narrower than Chevrolet engines so they fit with no mod needed. Just as Carol and Donald would have liked. Quality paint finish in Ferrari Corsa Roso. All weather equipment, soft top, tonneau and curtains are in good to excellent condition.
This car needs nothing and is ready for your enjoyment now. Not a back yard built hot rod but a fully developed example. It is a wonderful road and rally car, comfortable, tractable with tremendous performance when called upon. Smoothly pulls from 1000 RPM in any gear all the way to 6500 RPM without hesitation. Austin Healey history describes how Carrol Shelby actually contacted Donald Healey about creating this type of car but Healey could not due to his obligations to Austin. We all know what happened when Shelby joined forces with Ford and AC. In the fifties and sixties quite a few Healey V8 conversions competed in various races and did quite well, often defeating far more sophisticated machinery. There is a very interesting article in the January 2019 Austin Healey Club of America's monthly magazine describing one such similar car, the small block Corvette powered Cor-D-Ley racing to victory in the 250 mile Nassau Trophy race bettering teams from Germany, England and Italy. The Austin Healey Club of America recognizes these modified Healey's and has named them 'Nasty Boys. I have owned over 20 big Healey's in my lifetime including a full works Rally Replica that I competed in race and rallies all over western Canada and I have to say this car leaves them in the dust. A real COBRA KILLER. This is simply the most dependable and best performing Healey I have ever had the pleasure of driving.
Available for inspection by appointment. Email any questions. Check my feedback, you would be delighted with this Healey. I am not a dealer just an individual who collects and enjoys outstanding motorcars. Thank you for your interest.
