This is a great example of what many consider to be the best year of the famous Chrysler 300 Letter Car series that began in 1955. Designed by the famous Virgil Exner, this is one of 964 300F hard tops built in 1960. Standard equipment includes power steering and brakes, electroluminescent lighted Astradome dash cluster with console mounted tachometer and beige leather interior with full length console and swivel bucket seats. Options include power windows and seats, Golden Touch radio with rear speaker and rear window defogger.
Mechanical: Factory stock P41 Long Ram dual quad engine with recent valve job. Correct Carter 2705S 4 barrel carbs were rebuilt and tuned on the car by Jeff Carter of JC Auto in Mountlake Terrace, WA. He is one of the most knowledgeable Mopar restorer's on the planet and a great source for parts and advice. It has been driven only about 24 miles since the carbs were done. New reproduction wide white sidewall tires + a matching new spare. New front and rear shocks. New mufflers in the correct size. New sway bar and strut rod bushings. Restored original fuel tank with new sending unit. The gauge works fine and I have always filled the tank with non-ethanol premium gas.
Exterior: Always a west coast car. Sold new by J. E. French Co. in Oakland, California. It was already being displayed at the Fifth Annual WPC Meet in Portland, Oregon on August 2, 1974 and a Champoeg Park, Oregon classic car picnic on August 18,1974 with a dash plaques to prove it. No patch panels in the body or floor. Painted with a single stage urethane enamel for a correct 60's appearance. Original color was white. Two vintage quality tune up kits by Ampco. Spare Atlas voltage regulator in the original box. Spare parking brake housing, drum and shoes. Second 'red ball' antenna mast. Large assortment of books, magazines and club publications on the Chrysler 300 Letter Cars and the 300F. And the passenger side mirror, original radio and steering wheel previously mentioned. Plus a soft flannel lined car Covercraft cover custom made for this car.
The dash clock started making an intermittent grinding noise so I disconnected it. I believe JC can now convert them to quartz. And the vacuum operated windshield washer doesn't work correctly. A 61 Chrysler washer switch to convert it to an electric system is included. I never planned to drive it in the rain and really didn't see a need for a clock. The parking brake works most of the time but the pedal sometimes doesn't stay locked in the down position.
Runs cool and seems to drive and stop well although I haven't driven it much over 40 MPH around my neighborhood. Upshifts are very firm as you would expect from a performance car. As Michael Burke told me, these cars need to be driven. I wish I could keep it as it's always been my favorite but my heated storage is gone and I have moved it to my home garage. I have owned it for 24 years with restoration beginning about eight years ago and it still hasn't seen rain. Please email any questions and I'll try to answer them quickly. I am happy to work with the buyer to arrange transport.
