Around the shop, we refer to this car as The Villain In every great car movie, it comes down to a chase between the good guy and the bad guy. And we all know what the famous hero cars are from those scenes. The good guy may be driving a Highland Green Mustang, or a crazy Torino emblazoned with a white stripe. It may be Roy Scheider in an improbable, but vigorously driven Pontiac Ventura. But if you're like us, you're also paying attention to the understated bad guy's car. A big, and generally non-descript sedan with a sinister attitude. If, like us, you take a certain pleasure in those stealthy all business getaway cars, this is your ride. Only a few hundred pounds heavier than a Firebird or a GTO, this big comfortable and very affordable Pontiac remains a solid example of what an American midsize car was in the 1960's; steady on the road with the famous Pontiac Wide-Track, this car equipped with the optional 4bbl dual exhaust engine eats up the miles with a ton of attitude.
This Catalina is a honestly worn, but solid example from a Virginia estate, where it was used occasionally, and had recently been setting for a while. It now starts easily, and has a nice low rumble at idle. Every time we start it and warm it up, it seems to run a little better. It drives nicely. It presses you back in the seat as you would expect a 389 to do, and mountains become mere hills.
There is an oil leak that is noticeable mostly at start up, likely from the rear main seal. As the engine warms up, it all but disappears. The interior carpet and seat covers are new, and as original. The seat belts are frankly worn out and will need to be replaced. Currently, the right rear passenger door will not open. All of these issues should be easily addressed by a competent mechanic. It should be noted that although the bumpers are straight, the original plating is in poor condition. It would be tempting to replate them, though the natural petina is actually kinda cool.
Please examine the photographs for further details of the condition of the car.

On Mar-21-19 at 10:08:53 PDT, seller added the following information:It has been brought to our attention that the YE engine code is the 325 HP 389 CID, not the 333 HP 389 CID, as we initially listed. Simply put, in our reference documents, we transposed the WE code with the YE code. In the case of this Catalina, the actual horsepower difference is negligible due to the other modifications the engine has, which we annotated in the listing.
