This is the real deal, a 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 Police B07 Apprehender, an original California Highway Patrol pursuit car.
There are currently only 2 of these Ex CHP 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88's Apprehender's known to exist. This listed car is one of the two.
There maybe a handful more of these CHP 67 Delmont's out there yet undiscovered, but not more then a few if at all. When these cars were sold off, they were used and abused and eventually went to the crusher. The survival rate for vintage police cars is extremely low !!!
For those of you that hunt and collect these rare old ex police cars, you know what I'm talking about.
I have been collecting and restoring collectible vehicles for almost 40 years and have been fascinated with vintage ex police cars and their rarity.
The California Highway Patrol is a highly regarded state law enforcement agency that is famous for what it does and the cars it uses. Other law enforcement agencies throughout California and other states follow what the CHP does and the cars they purchase. There's plenty of history books and magazines that have done features on vintage CHP cars from the past. This includes the other known existing now restored ex CHP 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88.
30 years ago I started hunting for and collecting the older ex California Highway Patrol cars. One thing I found was that the cars are incredibly difficult to find, they practically do not exist anymore. When the cars were sold off, they were used as daily drivers by some, salvaged for their engines by others and eventually were then thrown away, destined for the crusher.
Throughout the 60's, the cars the Highway Patrol purchased were built special for them. From the large cubic inch high horsepower engines to the special handling suspension systems, etc., the CHP received the best. The cars were muscles cars in their own, designed to catch the muscles cars the public was driving at the time. It was an eye opener for me just how rare and hard to find these vintage police cars are even in California.
Today, there are currently just handful's existing of each year car the Highway Patrol used. These cars are incredibly important and increasingly collectible and climbing in value.
Today, I have decided to sell off some of the CHP cars I have collected over the years. Life is busy for me and theres too many cars to work on now, so I'm letting some go and keeping others. Several are already sold and now I'm going to let this 1967 CHP Oldsmobile go.
The car was found about 10 years ago in sunny southern California. It was used as a driver throughout its life. The car has little to no rust. The floors are solid and the frame is in great shape.
The car has all of its original heavy duty Oldsmobile pursuit equipment still in place. Including the external engine oil coolers, transistorized ignition, front disc brakes, heavy duty front and rear swaybar's, certified speedometer, manual steering, 425 cu in 375 HP Engine, etc.
The car is currently primer gray and white, the original black and white paint can still be seen though. The body is clean and decently straight with the exception of the hood, something in the past damaged the front top surface. The hood is repairable. The CHP wip antenna hole can still be seen along with the holes for the rear deck light mounting bracket and both right and left spotlights. There is also evidence of the front CHP only pushbar being mounted on the car.
The interior is worn and needs to be restored. The car is not running and it does need a full restoration also. There is one original wheel for the car and there is no CHP equipment included.
This is a rare opportunity to own a part of CHP history !! Any questions, please feel free to contact me.
