eBay This is an original 1972 Z28, non-numbers matching (engine or trans), but built to specs. Only 2,500 Z-28s were built that year due to a strike at the GM plant, this is a somewhat rare vehicle. It has a mild built 350 (out of a 1999 Suburban) and a heavy duty 1974 Muncie M-20 (26/32 spline). The engine is a mostly stock rebuild, bored .030 with rebuild rods and crank. Heads are Vortec style with all new hardware, heavy duty springs, and machined for high lift cam. It has a Howards hydraulic roller cam .501 inch lift, 230 duration @ .50 inch lift. Also, it has HEI ignition system and a mechanical fuel pump. The intake is an Edlebrock Performer RPM Air Gap and Street Demon 750 cfm carb. The trans was installed with new seals, it's installed with a new 11 inch Centerforce dual friction clutch, Hays bearing and Lakewood hd fork, that works very well.
The rear diff is from a Camaro with new Auburn limited slip, Richmond 3.73 gears, and Richmond rebuild kit. It was completely rebuilt with new axles, bearings and brakes (drum). This car was restored during 2012-2015, I have been driving it for about three years, mostly on weekends. The suspension was completely rebuilt as well; all balljoints, tie-rods and springs.
Some modifications include Hydraboost brake system (works great), modern 3-point retractable front seat belts and all polyurethane suspension bushings. All of the brake lines are new. Also, it has the quick ratio steering gear box. The front has a 1 1/4 inch and the rear is 9/16 inch anti-roll bar. This car is tough and super clean top to bottom.
When I purchased the car the body work was mostly done. The floors, upper cowl, trunk pan, tail light panel, inner quarters and both doors were replaced. The cowl hood is AMD and floor/trunk floor panels are repro. The front subframe was removed, blasted and painted with epoxy. The underbody is clean and painted black. After everything was rebuilt, I had it painted by a local guy, looks very nice. The original color for the car is code 43 Gulf Green with YF8 code black stripes, but I chose to go with code 26 Mulsanne blue. The original Gulf Green is preserved under the front fenders and could easily be used as a color sample.
And lastly, it needs A/C & Heat. Originally, Z28s did not come with AC that year, but I installed an A/C vent dashboard because the original dash was destroyed and I wanted AC too. All you will need is a Surefit kit from Vintage Air and you will be good to go. I have a compressor for the serpentine belt system to go with it. This is a real Z28 from 1972 (not many of these are still on the road) and it's a solid driver car, I drive this car a lot and it's so much fun. So don't wait place your bid!
