I have owned this car since 2005 and it has a number of refurbishments and modifications including an 1800cc Type 4 engine along with suspension upgrades, Porsche Boxster wheels, a bare-metal repaint, and a new interior. All of the work has been performed by the owner. This Beetle is offered with a clean Washington State title.
The body was stripped, fitted with new floor pans and wider fiberglass fenders, and refinished in the metallic gold seen here. Custom-fabricated running boards were fitted, while the original tail lamps and front turn signals were removed in favor of LED units integrated into the bumpers.
The car sits on Porsche Boxster wheels shod in a set of 17″ Michelin tires. Suspension upgrades include adjustable coilovers, camber plates, and a custom-built Kafer bar as well as Porsche 944 trailing arms and 930 CV joints. Braking is from Porsche 996 Brembo 4-piston calipers and discs in the rear, while a stock Ghia disc brake setup has been installed up front. Porsche Boxster spare with cover.
A Haartz fabric top and headliner were added during the build, and a matching vinyl tonneau cover is also provided.
Leather Porsche 944 seats, new door panels, the rare sun bug shift knob and fresh carpeting were installed in 2013. The rosewood-trimmed dashboard houses a row of auxiliary gauges mounted just beneath an MP3-capable aftermarket stereo. The 5-digit odometer indicates 31k miles. Total chassis mileage is unknown.
Power is from an 1800cc type IV flat-four long block obtained from importmotor.com and installed with dual EMPI HPMX 40mm carburetors and an electronic ignition system. Exhaust is via EMPI piping running through custom-built heater boxes and a stainless Dynomax muffler.
Approximately 4000 miles have been added since the bulk of the work was completed. Recent service included replacement of the master cylinder as well as an oil/filter change.
This car rides extremely well. Much smoother that a factory super beetle. Handles like it is on rails.
Fun car. Gets lots of compliments.
Please note. All modifications to vehicle are strictly bolt on. No welding, cutting was done to this vehicle. Front seats are bolted to modified vw seat frames so that they slide right into the factory sliders.
