What is it?
This car gets a TON of attention. You’ll see people driving behind you squinting trying to read the manufacture's badge. People will pull up to you at stop lights and approach you in parking lots to ask about it.
The name is pronounced “Kuh-vall-aye”. This 600 horsepower car is built in Modena Italy (home to Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini). While it is truly EXOTIC it is affordable to service because engine and electronics were sourced from Ford. NO it’s not a “kit cart”, but it is rare. Only 284 of them were produced from 2000-2001. This vehicle is a decedent of the DeTomaso Magusta and Pantera vehicles sold in the 60s & 70s. Most people don’t know what a “Mangusta” is, but most car people know what a Pantera is. This is a GREAT touring car filled with gorgeous Italian Leather. It is smooth fun and powerful.
The engine is 2001 Ford SVT Cobra 4.6 liter that has been stroked with a forged rotating assembly to 4.9 litres and supercharged. They sold for $85,000 new and over $45,000 was spent modifying this one. Parts for this vehicle are readily available from a warehouse in South Carolina.
Although it is pushing 600 hp now and if you think you need it, this could easily be increased to 700-800 by increasing up the boost on the supercharger from 16-21 with a smaller pulley and the use of E85 fuel. I found it to have plenty of power.
The audio system was completely upgraded to an Alpine head unit with navigation, 5 new Alpine speakers including a 12” subwoofer and a powerful Alpine amp.
One of the coolest features is it’s top. It has a full hard top. The center section can be removed and placed in the trunk to make it a Targa Top. Then with a push of a button the back section of the top drops into the body leaving you with a convertible.
